Bicycles & the End of Summer

For our last week of the Summer Program, I bring you a show about bicycles. Or cycling. Or whatever you might call it, besides wonderful. Now, I'm no "roadie" or bike expert but I am quite fascinated by the bicycle culture and community that surrounds this lifestyle's key ingredient. Bicycling and cycling provide a lot of dialogue and audible material for a large number of audio documentaries. I'm pleased to bring you just a sampling of what's out there.

Apart from it being a bicycle episode, this will also be Hear Me Out's last episode for now. I'm going to be taking a hiatus from the show in order to work on my own pending audio projects as well as prepare more shows for future quarters' programs. I've appreciated your listenership more than you know; I hope this summer's show hs been as memorable experience for you as it has been for me. I encourage you to keep checking back with this blog as I'll be posting my current audio documentaries and upcoming projects, as well as news about the return of Hear Me Out in 2008. And, as always, I would love to hear from you and share ideas. Email me at hearmeoutkzsc@gmail.com, yes? Thanks for listening. --- Sara-in-the-Studio

Vietnam, Other Views

In researching audio documentaries that I'd like to play, I noticed many, many pieces of all varieties on Vietnam, the Vietnam War and mostly, the after effects.
While I can't play all of them or even most of them, I'll be bringing you a few. One of the pieces features a look into the life of Kate Webb, a pioneer war correspondent and journalist (pictured here, photo not by me...of course. thanks, Google!). Others look at how music saved, tape recorders were company, property was stolen and respect never given.

EATS!

Food is wonderful, even in radio-world! We'll hear the audible side of banana pudding, maple syrup, burritos, cheese and even learn what its like to dine in the dark! This'll be a fun one.
Tune in, ok...maybe while you eat your favorite meal. Enjoy! Enjoy! Buen Provecho.

Reflexive Radio

Coming next week, a radio show about radio! Aspects of, musings about and analyzing of the tradition of sound. We'll hear pieces about the first sounds of radio, the phenomena of knowing only voices and a few others that I'll have to just save until broadcast. We'll also have a special guest with me, on to talk about one of radio's old-time uses. Stay tuned....

Silver Screens

This past Tuesday, we played a variety of pieces along the theme of movies! Film, if you will.
Along with interesting segments of technical secrets of the art, we heard stories of those experiencing film from the audience perpective and a participatory perspective, whether that be opening midnight movie showings to cult-film fanatics or recreating your favorite childhood movie over the course of seven years. Like usual, most of the pieces played can also be heard again at prx.org.
